We absolutely love Animal Ark Animal Hospital! Everyone we’ve encountered has been wonderful, from the incredibly friendly front office team to the brilliant vet techs and doctors. You can tell how much everyone genuinely cares about the animals they treat.

We’ve been especially grateful for Dr. Chen and the care she’s given our 12-year-old sport-trained Belgian Malinois, Zsasz. His hind legs have started giving out as he’s gotten older, and we’ve seen such a noticeable improvement since Dr. Chen began using acupuncture as part of his care. He’s getting up and moving around so much more easily, which has been incredible to see.

The entire team is kind, patient, knowledgeable, and always makes us feel like Zsasz is in the best possible hands. We truly couldn’t ask for a better veterinary team and are so grateful for everyone at Animal Ark!

(All photos were taken during different acupuncture sessions - Zsasz knows the drill by now! He runs in, greets everyone, stands on the scale, and then heads straight into his favorite exam room to wait for Dr. Chen. And, of course, we reward him with a peanut butter lick mat for being the goodest boy. 🥹🐾)

We were welcomed with southern hospitality, and Happi was loved by the staff members, Athena etc. Gentle, the technician kept us informed of the status of our exam, test, and updates regarding the Veterinarian. Happi was given cheese whiz as a reward for good behavior, coffee was offered while waiting, this ark is where true animal care lives! Noah's ark is a true example of those on a mission to care/ save the lives of all animals walking into the Ark! Total opposite of treatment received at VCA! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE BARNONE!!

Questions to Ask When Choosing a Vet

Discover how Animal Ark Animal Hospital sets the standard for pet care in Franklin, TN.

Is your veterinarian board-certified?

Dr. Schuerer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners — one of approximately 12 board-certified small animal practitioners in Tennessee. This certification requires a rigorous two-day examination and renewal every ten years. The majority of general practice veterinarians are not board-certified.

Will I see the same doctor every visit?

Yes. At Animal Ark, you see Dr. Schuerer every visit. She knows your pet's history, your preferences, and your financial situation. There are no rotating doctors, no starting over, and no explaining your pet's story to a stranger.

Who manages anesthesia during surgery?

Animal Ark has a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia (VTS) on staff — the equivalent of a nurse anesthetist. This is rare in a general practice and means your pet's anesthesia is managed by a credentialed specialist, not a general technician.

Can you treat exotic animals?

Yes. Dr. Monica Chen sees a wide variety of exotic species including birds, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, and other small mammals. Most general practices treat exotic patients without appropriate training. Dr. Chen brings dedicated experience.

How long has the practice been in Franklin?

Nearly 30 years. Dr. Schuerer knows the regional disease patterns, the specialist network, the local environment, and the community. That depth of local knowledge is not transferable.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Yes, for urgent cases during office hours, Monday through Friday. You will not be told to wait a week for a sick pet.

Corporate vs. Independent: Who Truly Owns Your Neighborhood Vet?

"Know if your vet is a private equity-owned practice."

Did you know that many local animal clinics in the Williamson County area have silently been bought out by massive corporate investment firms? This structural shift often brings rotating doctors, rigid corporate sales quotas, and sudden price hikes. At Animal Ark Animal Hospital, we have proudly remained 100% independently owned as a proud business member of the community since 2002, serving Franklin, TN pet families with trusted, relationship-driven veterinary care from the exact same doctor every single visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Animal Ark Animal Hospital provides comprehensive dental care, including an oral examination, dental X-rays, ultrasonic scaling, polishing, and a tooth-by-tooth inspection under anesthesia. When necessary, extractions may also be performed to address diseased or damaged teeth.

Possible signs of dental disease include persistent bad breath, drooling, bloody saliva, difficulty chewing, dropping food, yellow or brown buildup on the teeth, pawing at the mouth, or avoiding contact around the face. A veterinary examination can help determine the cause and appropriate treatment.

Board certification represents advanced training and demonstrated expertise beyond standard veterinary licensing requirements. The practice's lead veterinarian is Board Certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice.

Veterinary acupuncture can be used as part of an integrative treatment approach to help manage pain, improve mobility, support healing, and promote overall comfort. Whether it is appropriate depends on the individual dog’s condition and veterinary assessment.

Animal Ark Animal Hospital provides dental care, wellness and vaccinations, diagnostics, surgery, advanced anesthesia, acupuncture, nutrition services, urgent care during regular hours, and other veterinary services.
