Why Does my Pet Need Vaccines in Franklin, TN?

After your pet’s puppy or kitten series of boosters to help build up their immunity as they grow, we recommend vaccinating them every 1-3 years depending on the vaccine. We will usually recommend stopping some vaccines as your pet is considered a “senior” as they likely have built up enough immunity through their life.

For dogs, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccines are due every 3 years to keep their immunity up. Other vaccines such as leptospirosis, Bordetella and canine influenza are recommended yearly and may be recommended for your pup depending on exposure and lifestyle.

For cats, the upper respiratory vaccine (FVRCP) is due every 3 years and their rabies is due once yearly as we use an advanced vaccine that is safer than the 3 year product. Your cat was likely vaccinated for feline leukemia as a kitten but it has been shown that kittens build up enough immunity to this after their kitten series and they don’t need further vaccines as adults!

If you have questions about what vaccines are recommended for your pet, please schedule an appointment to better discuss possible exposure, requirements for boarding facilities, and age recommendations. Here at Animal Ark Animal Hospital, we are ready to help you and your pet with whatever your needs may be!
