ACUPUNCTURE AT ANIMAL ARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Veterinary acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, and modern science has helped explain why it works. By placing fine needles at specific points along the body, called acupoints, we stimulate areas dense with nerve endings and blood vessels. This encourages circulation, triggers the release of natural pain-relieving compounds like endorphins and serotonin, and supports the body’s own healing response.

At Animal Ark, Dr. Monica Chen integrates acupuncture as part of a whole-patient approach, using it alongside traditional medicine to get better outcomes for your pet.

Conditions acupuncture may help manage:

Arthritis and joint pain

Acute pain, including intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), muscle spasms, and knee injuries

Anxiety

Allergies

Digestive issues such as vomiting, decreased appetite, and diarrhea

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Will my pet be uncomfortable?

Most pets tolerate acupuncture very well. The needles are significantly thinner than those used for vaccines. Some animals feel a brief sensation at placement, but many relax deeply during the session.

Sessions typically run 10 to 15 minutes.

Acupuncture works cumulatively. We generally recommend 4 to 6 sessions before expecting noticeable improvement. Changes are often gradual at first, so we track progress carefully with you.

Absolutely. Acupuncture is meant to be a calm, low-stress experience, and having you present often helps. If you’d prefer not to be in the room, we’re happy to care for your pet in our treatment area.
